Understanding Your Primary Care Provider

Paneled vs. Non-Paneled Patients

Your Primary Care Provider

Alberta Health Services (AHS) encourages every patient to have one designated primary care provider who coordinates their ongoing healthcare.

Your primary care provider is responsible for:
  • Annual physicals & preventive care

  • Chronic disease management

  • Medication management

  • Reviewing specialist & hospital reports

  • Following up on test results

  • Coordinating your long-term healthcare

You can still visit walk-in clinics for urgent or unexpected concerns.

PANELED PATIENTS

Your regular healthcare home.

You receive:
  • Continuous, comprehensive care

  • Preventive screenings & annual exams

  • Chronic disease management

  • Medication management

  • Ongoing follow-up

  • Coordinated referrals & specialist care

NON-PANELED (WALK-IN) PATIENTS

If Manchester Rose Primary & Preventive Care is not your primary clinic, we are happy to provide care for urgent, one-time concerns.

We can help with:
  • Acute illnesses

  • Minor injuries

  • Short-term medical concerns

  • Necessary investigations related to today’s visit

We cannot provide:
  • Annual physicals

  • Routine wellness visits

  • Ongoing chronic disease management

  • Routine medication management

  • Insurance, disability, medical forms

  • Long-term follow-up

Why Continuity of Care Matters

Because medical records are not automatically shared between clinics, having one primary care provider helps ensure:

Better communication

Appropriate follow-up of results

Safe, coordinated healthcare
