Iron Infusion Services

  • A referral from a healthcare provider is required to access our iron infusion service. The referral form, which includes the information and recent blood work required for our Nurse Practitioner to assess your eligibility, is available for download on this page.

    Please ensure that your referral includes recent laboratory results, as these are necessary to determine the appropriate treatment plan.

  • Once we receive your completed referral and laboratory results, our Nurse Practitioner will review your medical information and blood work.

    Based on your results and individual needs, the NP will determine:

    • Whether intravenous iron is appropriate for you

    • The type of iron preparation recommended

    • The appropriate dosage

    • The number and frequency of infusions required

  • If IV iron is recommended, our Nurse Practitioner will provide a prescription for the appropriate iron preparation.

    You may have the prescription sent to your preferred pharmacy. Alternatively, with your permission, we commonly send prescriptions to Sherwood Park Mettra Pharmacy, located approximately five minutes from our clinic. Our team can also obtain your insurance information to assist the pharmacy with processing your prescription, where applicable.

    The patient is responsible for picking up the prescribed iron and bringing it with them to their scheduled infusion appointment.

  • Once your referral has been reviewed and your treatment plan has been established, a member of our team will contact you to arrange an appropriate date and time for your infusion.

  • Please bring your prescribed iron medication with you to your appointment. Our clinical team will administer the medication and monitor you throughout the infusion according to the appropriate clinical protocols.

How the Process Works

What Does the Infusion Cost?

Our clinic charges an infusion service fee only. The cost of the prescribed iron medication is separate and is paid through the pharmacy.

The cost of your iron may be covered in whole or in part by your private insurance plan, depending on your individual coverage. We recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider before filling your prescription.
